Drastic Times.....The Top 25
I know I said that I was going to detox right? Ok, drastic times calls for drastic measures...so I pushed the date back to help out a friend.
My homegirl whom I helped out called me at work last night, she must've got the news. See, I never let them know when my work is finished, they either read about it, or see it on the news. Anyway, she calls with this tone that said either it was Christmas in August or that lottery relapse actually paid off. "Did you have to break off his nails?, I figured you was going to give him a Class B beatdown (to those who don't know some of us actually rate our work up here), oh well, thank you, what do I owe you?" I smiled and said roll me an el and we'll talk about it later, I then got silent for a few seconds and said hey (_________) did you lose the baby? After some silence she says "no" but is thinking about her options. I say, where are you leaning towards, she says she wants to keep it I told her I think that is a good idea, matter of fact, don't roll that el for me, give em' my first name for their middle and we square. "You wouldnt believe this, but I already did". That's what's up, she then told me I could still pick up the el when I got off, shit you think I didn't???
Well, enough with that. In honor of my favorite channel ESPN I would like to give my two cents on the top 25 things that rocked my world in the past 25 years. Although I'm 26, I am giving you the highs and lows of my life, here's the recap.
#25. Finding my way to the car after getting lost @Westfarms Mall - I was only 3 years old.
#24. Getting suspended for slapping the bus driver for not giving me the seatbelt. - to this day, I still feel like I was right in the situation.
#23. Having a gun pointed in my face by my own pops, I also had one at his. - I was 12 years old.
#22. Finding out I have a pretty high ass IQ at 10 years old, it did not mean I could strike gold with the girls.
#21. Visiting my cousins on Iwo Jima ST. every summer from 5 to 12 - believe it or not this place would serve as my future place of employment in the United States Marine Corps. as a recruit.
#20. Starting the biggest food fight in Springfield school's history - I was in the 5th Grade.
#19. Going 3 1/2 years with my so-called first love, only to lose her our first year of College and her pregnant by her second year.
#18. Getting a job at Foot Locker, which I have to say was one of my best jobs to date.
#17. Navigating my mother from Mass to Alabama and back without falling asleep and no use of a walkman.
#16. Making the cut to play Junior Varsity my first year of high school - I played only 2 minutes the whole season.
#15. Making the B&C (Buck and Change) Express park & rec team that summer after my freshman year at high school - here I averaged 12 points a game with 8 rebounds, glad they slept on me in high school.
#14. Scored my first goal as a soccer player in the playoffs - I was a fullback and it was a good 40 yards away.
#13. The drop heard across California, K* could tell you on that one.
#12. Putting my Church on the map as one of the most outgoing group of cats to ever go anywhere where there is a hotel involved.
#11. Extending that group in #12. and continuing to evolve that same group to my Conference.
#10. Meeting all the cats I know from Charles St. AME in Boston, to this day, they are my extended family.
#9. Being able to go backstage and meet all these celebreties at the Hard Knock Tour, Cash Money Ruff Ryders Tour, The Miseducation Tour, etc etc between 1997 and 2004.
#8. Going to the National Championships my first year at Newbury College, playing JUCO basketball, and to think we actually ended up third. Too bad we didn't play Lasell, I know I would've crossed some bitch they had who played my position, I think he knows it too.
#7. Me and my mother taking over the blackjack table when I was 19, and winning my first $1000, they actually thought we were brother and sister.
#6. Take your pick: any of my dunk contest championships.
#5. Finally figureing out that these certain individuals whom I had beef with during combat training has now become the crew I have called "The Firm".
#4. Landing a job at Hot 93.7 in its 2nd year on the air.
#3. Finishing High School on the first try with no repeats.
#2. Jumped by 6 cats in Junior High at 3:30pm - by 6 that same day, went to each house and fought them head up, and gave out three concussions (courtesy of a stick, mini-bat, and street curb) a broken hand, and a cracked eye socket.
#1. Getting out the Marine Corps August 2001, if that ain't a blessing, I don't know what is.
I know I missed a few, some didn't make the cut, others I cut out. If this was a top 50 then I would be all day. Either way, these are highs and lows. No one said I was the poster child for being perfect.
Before I bounce, big shout out to BE, K-Cee, MS, KP, the whole Oak Grove block, da Red House, 305, my man GE doin' his thing on Battlegrounds, Dunbar Park, Greenleaf Park, Hubbard Park, my kids over at KIT (my job, I told yall I would get yall), Uptown money getters aka the Ugs, Mis106, the King, Supa Mario (good look on my 16 for the mixtape), (____________) for the work, H20 Element, and my best friend in Philly J*, who needs to call me.
